The Chicago Cubs are 60-48 and have taken the first two games of a four game set from the San Francisco Giants. As of right now, the Giants are 1.5 games behind the Cubs for the second Wild Card spot.
Kyle Schwarber hit his first Wrigley Field homerun last night and earned a start again in left field. With Addison Russell stepping in at short stop for Starlin Castro, Chris Coghlan was able to stay in the line up at second base. This worked out well in the first inning when Schwarber scored on a Coghlan single. It’s good to see Schwarber in left field now that Miguel Montero is back and the Cubs are back to three catchers. Russell made a couple of solid plays at short and it is intriguing to see him on the other side of the diamond.

Mr. En Fuego
I was at the game last night (date night with the wife!) and it was fantastic to see Jorge Soler hitting the ball. He was hot again today as he added a couple more RBIs giving him 4 in the series. Kris Bryant was 1 for 3 today and I’m going to need that young fella to bring that .247 batting average up over .270 by the end of the season or I’m going to lose a bet for a steak dinner .
Jon Lester was solid again today and has clawed his way to a 7-8 record. Kyle Hendricks will face the 2-2 Matt Cain tomorrow and Jake Arrieta faces 2-4 Jake Peavy on Sunday. I like the Cubs chances to win one or both of these two games.
FYI, #Cubs Maddon says Russell will start at short on Saturday. Repeated that Schwarb/Coghlan precipitated the move
