Cuts, Cuts, and More Cuts Reveal Some Different Roster Permutations Coming Next Week

Posted on Updated on

rodgers 71 2015Over the past week, the Cubs set free over 20 prospects. Some you may remember like Jordan Hankins, a Midwest League All-Star in 2014. 2014 Midwest League Finals MVP Jacob Rodgers, formerly of Kane County and last year’s Myrtle Beach Pelicans, was let go today along with Tayler Scott and Trey Masek, who has rarely been healthy since shoulder problems began in 2013. Also, 2014 Kane County Cougar Closer Jasvir Rakkar was cut today.

For me, I loved Jacob Rodgers. He wasn’t flashy, but he was a professional on how he did his job. He could work a count and he has some good power. But when you are blocked by Dan Vogelbach and Anthony Rizzo, your future is limited. I hope someone picks him up.

Here is the full of list cuts since last Saturday. These come from The Cub Reporter. A more complete list will be out by the end of this week. Some of them we talked up on the weekly wrap up on Monday.

Angelo Amendolare, 2B; Fernando Cruz, RP ; Jesus Guzman, 1B ; Corbin Hoffner, RP  ; Trey Masek, RP  ; Mike O’Neill, OF ; Luis Parra, RP ; Jasvir Rakkar, RP ; Jacob Rogers, 1B  ; Tayler Scott, RP ; Matt Brazis, RP ; Matt Clark, 1B ; Donnie Cimino, OF ; Heath Dwyer, RP ; Nick Greenwood, RP ; Jordan Hankins, C; Yomar Morel, RP ; Santiago Rodriguez, RP ; Austyn Willis, SP; Sam Wilson, RP.

Early next week, Cubs Central will examine the final changes in the minor league affiliates’’ rosters when they are released.

black 82For Example, as of today:
Iowa – It appears as though Jeimer Candelario will be beginning the year in Des Moines. Corey Black has had a good spring and earned his way to Iowa – Good for him!
Tennessee – Rob Zastryzny will not be going to AAA. Jake Hannemann and Billy McKinney also stick around for another tour – at least for a while.
Myrtle Beach – Jen-Ho Tseng is stationed here again. Joining him in the rotation will be Trevor Clifton, Jeremy Null, and Jake Stinnett along with Ian Rice, Craig Brooks, and Scott Effross, who all skipped A-.
South Bend – Eddy Martinez is here and so is Preston Morrison. The pitching staff is filled with some top prospects. The outfield looks amazing with Martinez, Eloy, and Donnie Dewees – for now.

We will talk about the rosters next Wednesday!

Tomorrow Clark and I will predict what will think will happen in April in Chicago. Be ready for that.
