- I didn’t find it I odd that the Cubs selected three pitchers.
- All three pitchers have a good fastball PLUS a major-league outpitch. Lange has a curveball and Abbott has a wipeout slider. As for Little, he throws 97 from the left.
- I don’t see the Cubs selecting a lot of position players today. They will select a few, but they are not in dire need of developing position players. The ones they have now in the minors are a little bit blocked by those guys up in Chicago. I think next year will see them target that area more.
Today is pretty relaxed day. The Cubs will make 8 picks over 5+ hours. It is not rushed and they should find some good value, especially in rounds 3-5.
Here are some top names still available heading into the third round
Nick Allen – SS -He probably can’t be swayed from USC now
Alex Scherff – P – HS – I am stunned he is still available
Tristan Beck – P – Stanford
Garrett Mitchell – OF – High School
Riley Adams – C – San Diego
Evan Skoug – C – TCU
Jake Thompson P – Oregon State – Cubs originally drafted him in 2013
Luis Gonzalez – OF – New Mexico – No relation
Here are a few later in the day names to keep an eye on
The Cubs are going to take catchers – lots of them. They are also likely to load up on some relievers.
Colton Hock – P – Stanford; Dylan Busby – 3B – Florida State; Spencer Strider – P = HS; Garrett King – P – Cal-Baptist; Tyler Johnson – P – South Carolina (LOVE HIM!!!!); Chad Spanberger – OF – Arkansas (Star of the CWS right now); Dalton Guthrie – SS – Florida; Ricardo De La Torre – SS – HS; Ricky Tyler Thomas – P – Fresno St.; Mitchell Stone – P – HS; Jake Adams – 1B – Iowa.
See you in a couple of hours with a new post.
