Breaking News: Jim Hickey “Officially” Out as Pitching Coach

By Todd Johnson

It was a poorly kept secret. About two weeks ago, it was leaked that Jim Hickey was not going to return to the Cubs as pitching coach. It was a rough season for Hickey as the Cubs lost Darvish, Morrow, and Tyler Chatwood struggled. However, Hickey was able to piecemeal a bullpen together of spare part like Randy Rosario, James Norwood, and later Jesse Chavez.

With Joe Maddon a lame duck manager, it is going to be challenging to bring in a pitching coach with Maddon’s future up in the air. Who is going to want to sign a contract for what could be just a 1 year contract?

Evan Altman of Cubs Insider threw out the name of the Giant’s Curt Young as a possible replacement for Hickey. The Cubs should find a replacement soon.
